Proverbs 6:5-6/ “Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight“
My cousin Paige sent me this video yesterday from our mission trip to Rwanda a couple of years ago and you best believe I was inspired!!! I know you’re probably saying, “I wish I had moves like that.” Or you’re most likely just as confused as this guy trying to figure out what the heck I’m doing. Either way I hope you get a kick out of this! I obviously don’t have a clue how to dance but I’ve never let that stop me from getting down!
Shoutout to Paige and Cory for being awesome leaders on these trips and giving me the chance to experience (and dance) in places with some of the most amazing people! The funny part about this video is right before this wild display of movement, the guy beside me was showing me how to do some of their traditional dances. It was a little break from slinging mud on this house behind us and I gotta say not only are these guys some of the hardest working people I’ve ever met, they can get down! I watched his moves and instantly I knew there’s no way I can come to dancing that good. So I decided to go with what I knew and put my spin on it. I really wish I would’ve taken his lessons to heart because it’s pretty obvious I needed all the help I could get.
All the dancing and memories led me to these verses that the Lord has been reminding me of lately. The easy thing to do is walk out this life out of our own understanding, thinking and acting out of how we see it. The problem with that is after learning this lesson the hard way, my understanding doesn’t ever do me a lot of good. If it’s left up to us and how we see things, we don’t stand a chance. Lately, I’ve been so caught in this trap of going off how I see things and the effects are so bad. How I see my life and my future makes me feel overwhelmed, stuck, fearful and defeated. It even effects our relationship with others because if we believe and put our trust in all that we’ve got, we’re going to act out of what we believe.
The good thing is after digging into these simple verses is we don’t have to lean on our own understanding. As a follower of Christ, we are adopted children into the Kingdom of God! Think about that, we have a personal relationship with the Creator, the supreme One, and He gives us Himself to learn from! He tells us not to lean on ourselves because He knows that our path will be ever winding leading to death. Out of His love for us, He wants the best for us and gives us Himself to trust in and follow so we can walk out this life on straight paths into the next. He gave us His son so we didn’t have to continue living under the control of sin and death but walk in freedom and victory! Now we have Jesus Christ living in us and with us, we have the power of the Holy Spirit guiding us and comforting us when this life gets to hard to handle. On top of all that, He gave us His Word, His direct communication to us telling us how to live, how to love, and how to learn more about His eternal goodness!
At the end of the day, we don’t have to live as defeated, weak people because God gave us everything by giving us all of Himself. We don’t have to walk in the crooked paths because we can put our trust in Him knowing that He will make our paths straighter than ever. I go through this life beat down, worried, and fearful so often but thank God I don’t have to live in that. Thank God we can get up and dance over our weakness, dance in His freedom and love! The coolest truth that God has showed me lately is not to believe in what I got or what my situation looks like, BELIEVE in HIM!! Believe in everything He’s given me! Believe in Who He is and who He says I am! If you believe you’re a child of God and loved by the most powerful and holy King of Kings, if you believe it you’ll live it. Hit the music, time to get down!!!
