“Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away.”
1 Corinthians 7:31
Ran across this verse today and Francis Chan had this illustration in the link above that really makes this truth easier to see. When I saw this verse I had so much conviction about the way I spend my time, my money, my energy, really my life in general. After spending so much time getting caught up in chasing pleasures, job titles, and things of this world, to think I’m doing it all backwards majority of the time? Wow. I pray this piece of truth hits you in the face like it did me! This is such a short life we get here on earth so what we do with it has big implications in the light of eternity. Spend more time with people in your life, focus on those relationships, how you can serve and love better. This world has a habit of getting you so wrapped up that you end up in your personal bubble with your personal pleasures.
Do a check up today and take some inventory. Where do you invest your time, resources, and energy the most? Is it in what truly matters like relationships and serving? Are the things you do making an impact for your personal happiness or an eternal impact? Do you get wrapped up trying to be “successful” and forgetting about why you’re here in the first place? How could you change your vision to live in light of eternity instead of in the light of now in a world and life that’s passing away? What should you do less and who should you love more? Some things to think about on this rainy Thursday! Don’t get wrapped up investing in a world that will give you no return when in it’s all said and done! Invest in your relationship with the Lord and live in the light of knowing you’re only passing through this life on the way to a life that will never pass away! Get your check up!
If you get some bad results like I did, I guarantee you’ll laugh, love, and live a whole lot more and definitely a whole lot different!
