God Gold of the Day
“21 This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. 22 Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.
23 But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as God’s servant to proclaim it.”
– Colossians 1:21-23
Holy guacamole guys!!! Talk about some freedom giving, victory living, Gospel truth in this Word!!! I pray this God Gold helps you in every way possible and I’m usually not this bold but after seeing this truth of the Gospel and what it’s done for my life. If you really hold tightly to this truth, I know it will change your life in some awesome ways.
Heard a guy mention something recently that showed how distorted the truth of the Gospel has become and it’s similar to what I’ve believed also but thank God for His Word showing us the TRUTH of the Gospel and giving us this News that is so so GOOD!!!
This fella said something like, “I would follow Christ and live the Christian life but I’ve got some personal demons to deal with first.” After hearing this I thought of something that I’ve heard my Uncle use in his prison ministry and something other Christians use as an example. “If you walk into God’s courtroom on judgement day, looking at the sins of your life, would you be considered guilty or not guilty? Well we’d be considered guilty right? Because every human has committed sins before. But wait a second, although we deserve to be guilty the door to the courtroom opens, it’s JESUS!!! He yells out, NOO!!! He’s not guilty because I, Jesus, have paid the price for His sins on the cross. My blood has washed him clean from his sins, past, present and future. So upon Jesus storming in the courtroom, God calls out the verdict. Although, you are obviously guilty, Jesus and what He has done for you, God says, “you are NOT GUILTY!”
So what’s holding anyone back from accepting Jesus into their lives? It’s not our sin, how good or bad we’ve been because the truth of the Gospel says plainly that Jesus has paid the price for our sins, there used to be a gap that separated us from God and that gap was sin. Jesus and the work He did on the cross, with His blood being received as payment for our sin, Jesus CLOSED THE GAP!!! No longer can our sin hold us back from God because Jesus has taken care of that!
The false belief that I’ve mainly struggled with is that if I still sin and mess up daily, how could God love me? Especially in my moment of sin, I begin to believe the lies the devil likes to plant in our heads, “you’re not worthy to come before God, God doesn’t accept you because you sinned, God hasn’t forgiven you, look at all the sins you’ve committed yesterday.” All those are lies but lies that are very easy to believe especially if you don’t truly know the Good News of the Gospel, the truth about what Jesus has done and how God really sees you.
Those lies can really hurt you and take you so far from God. Now it makes sense why Paul says what He says in verse 23. “ But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News.”
It’s easy to see why Paul restates this for importance because we face a world and an enemy that is constantly going to try and feed us lies to believe about the sinner we used to be, how we’re not worthy, accepted or loved by God because of our sin. What’s even more harmful about these lies is that it can leave you stuck in sin and thinking, “I just sinned, how can I possibly go before such a holy and perfect God??? Or you can believe those lies about your identity of being worthless, not accepted and not loved by God. With the guilt that comes with thinking that’s who you are and basing your experience with sin today as the sins you’ve committed yesterday, you will live out those beliefs and you will live as the person you think you are. Not worthy. Defeated. Sinful and hopeless. “But WAIT!!!” Jesus says!!!
The sinful person living in darkness yesterday isn’t who Jesus says you are today so you don’t have to live that life any longer!!! Paul says to “But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it.” The same Gospel message you believed from that first moment with Jesus, don’t quit believing it! Stand firmly in the TRUTH even when attacked with lies, the TRUTH that Jesus has paid the price for your sins, His blood has washed ALL of your sins away and because of what Jesus has done, that AWESOME NEWS of the Gospel!!! You can stand before God as His child where God sees you not as you once were but WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST!!! God sees you as clean, worthy, accepted, and loved!!!
That’s the beauty of the Gospel! It’s not about who you are, what you’ve done or haven’t done, or how “good” or “bad” you’ve been! The Good News isn’t so GOOD because you are, it doesn’t matter what you do, IT’S ALL ABOUT WHAT CHRIST HAS DONE!!! The Gospel that first saved us is the same Gospel truth that saves us daily! When we do sin, we don’t have to hide from God remember the truth of the Gospel that says we’re forgiven and accepted by God!
I’ve lived many days in this false belief of lies that is found nowhere in the Gospel. I’ve lived in this thought that because I sin, I’m guilty, God doesn’t love me and I’m not worthy. Living in this belief system, my actions are no different than my beliefs. I’m guilty so I’ll keep living in sin because there’s nothing I can do to change that. LIES LIES LIES!!!!
The truth of the Gospel says that Christ has already changed that, by what He did on the cross! Going back to what Paul says in verse 23, you must continue believing this truth and stand firm in it. When you continue believing the truth that Christ has done all the work, it’s not dependent on you to earn right standing before God but because of what Christ has done, you’re ALREADY IN right standing before God!!! Believe God’s TRUTH about you, that despite your sin and weakness, GOD sees you as WORTHY, ACCEPTED AND FORGIVEN!!!
The truth of the Gospel doesn’t just save you from your current sin, living under the belief of how God truly sees you, if you stand firm in the truth of the Gospel, you will no longer have to live in the sins of yesterday, God forgives your past so no you can live in the FREEDOM and VICTORY that Christ has given you in this NEW LIFE!!!!!! Now you see why it’s called the GOOD News?!?!?!? BECAUSE IT’S SOOOO GOOOODD!!!!!!!!
