“28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
I’m going to be honest with you today. I don’t feel like typing this God Gold. I’ve had a long day of work, school, and life but as I sat here making excuses as to why I shouldn’t write, Jesus spoke His truth louder than any excuse or reason I could ever come up with. He gives us a call to join with Him as ONE, to simply “Come to me.” And it’s funny, Jesus doesn’t say, “come to me as long as you’ve been perfect and sinless today, come to me because you’ve read a certain amount of scriptures or anything like that. Jesus says, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens.”
I come to you today to tell you of Jesus’ call for you to “come to Him.” It’s okay if you’ve had the longest day of your life, if you’ve messed up and sinned more than ever, if you’ve skipped your Bible reading or daily devotional. Jesus is there for you despite the kind of day you’ve had, no matter how bad or how hard it’s been He is there for the weary, the exhausted people, exhausted from carrying the burdens that life gives. Jesus doesn’t just allow us to come to Him and be close, walk as ONE with the perfect and powerful Son of God, Jesus also says that when you come to Him, He accepts you right where you’re at, and He will give you rest. I’m not just talking about physical rest like sleeping but spiritual rest which takes care of every area of your life. As I’ve ran myself ragged lately trying to keep up with life, through the many different things that I have going on in front of me, as much stress and worry as I’ve felt, as much as I’ve felt inadequate and not strong enough to keep carrying on, the only true place I’ve found rest, rest that’s not just temporary but lasts a lifetime, is in Jesus.
Coming to Him may seem difficult much of the time, as I know myself like a lot of people focus so much on how our day has been, if we’ve failed in any type of way, if we feel like it or if our emotions are in a good place, we focus on us and what our incapability to live life by ourselves, but Jesus says “Come to me.” Nothing more, leave your burdens at the door because those burdens are nothing when coming close to Christ. As we live our day today, don’t focus on you, because this relationship isn’t about you. The only way to find true rest is in Jesus Christ who is there for us throughout every situation good or bad that we face. When coming to Jesus, just come to Him, put your focus solely on Him and leave you completely at the door. I know if it was up to me, or I went to Jesus when I felt good, then I doubt I would rarely ever come to Him, and I definitely wouldn’t find rest. Focus on Jesus throughout your day, the One that this life is all about, it’s His faithfulness, His love and His sacrifice that gave us life to begin with so focus on Him and all He has done and Who Jesus is!!!! Come to Him, in who Jesus is, knowing how He has fought for us and continues to fight for us, teach us and strengthen us daily, coming to Him is the only answer.
I wasn’t sure what “yoke” meant and it turned out after doing some research, “yoke” was used as a metaphor for how oxen during that time would be two side by side under a wooden frame holding them together to get work done in the fields. To carry heavy loads. As we try to carry our heavy loads, we find out being yoked up alone or alongside any thing of this world to get the job done, to carry the heavy load or find rest in this life, it’s impossible. But as Jesus says, “Come to me,” Jesus also says, “take my yoke upon you.” Jesus is giving us the keys to freedom, the only way to get out from under struggling carrying heavy loads of burdens that continue to beat us up and push us down. Jesus is saying to take His LIFE, His love, His grace, His example, and His strength upon you, yoke up beside Him, where you and Jesus like two oxen, become ONE, striving for the same goal and purpose in life. As He carries that heavy load of burdens you face daily, being ONE with Christ and staying close to Him constantly, Jesus gives you everything you need and then some, He takes that load off and gives you rest. He takes being drug down in the mud by the weight of your sin, failures and fear away or anything this world throws at you and Jesus bares it all. Jesus has already done all the work that needs to be done for you to have a full, satisfying life filled with nothing but peace, joy, victory and FREEDOM! So come to Him, take His yoke upon you and you will find that as ONE with Christ living this life with Him, through Him, and for Him, you will walk freely through this life, nothing holding you down, just walking with Jesus, living and loving as He loved us! Take the weight off by coming to Jesus! He has already given you freedom and rest, if you aren’t experiencing that, ask yourself, “who or what am I yoked to?”
And I didn’t feel like typing this but taking my yoke upon Jesus, Jesus changes everything!!!!!
