Since RWANDA WEEK is on the horizon now just a few days away, I thought what better way to get your mind not just set on foreign missions, but the call we all have as Christ followers, the one and only mission we have. Spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world. There is no limit on this mission, there’s not a ten step plan on how to do it or any particular way for it to look like. This mission Jesus has given us can be lived out anywhere with anyone, at any time. The only thing it really takes to live this mission and embrace this mission in your own life, is to submit. Although it is unlimited in every area, to truly attack this mission the way Christ has called us to is to completely give up ourselves for the sake of the Gospel. In our daily lives, giving up ourselves may happen in little, small, seemingly insignificant ways: taking a pause from what you want to do or have to do, stepping back from serving “I” and just stopping to have a conversation with a friend or stranger, a random act of kindness, a smile. These things that seem so small can open up doors to tell others of the greatest love there is and that’s the love of Jesus.
I wanted to share with you this story of a group of missionaries, one of them you may have heard of, Jim Elliot. This story was brought into my life a little over a year ago. I was shown this video and had chill bumps all over me. Conviction and emotions I’ve never felt before, asking the question to myself, “is this Gospel message that I treat so small a lot of the time, how much does Jesus and the LIFE He’s given me mean to me? Is this call to follow Him, is this mission He’s set us on really worth giving up everything for? Even dying for?”
These questions had me shook pretty bad but it was a time that I grew so much deeper in my love for Christ and saw how BIG the importance is of telling others about Him. It’s still a daily battle between following self or taking up my cross and following Christ on this mission but I pray that this message of these guys examples can bring a whole new meaning to what this mission Christ has given us is all about for myself and you. I pray that God opens up our hearts and minds to see this mission in the magnitude of what it really is and what it could mean for someone else. Whether you’re ever in this situation or not, a great question to ask is; “Is this Gospel, is Jesus, is this calling He’s placed on my life as a follower of Him, is He worth giving everything for? Even dying for?”
It’s easy to say “oh yeah of course!” But spend some time and seriously reflect on these questions and these examples you’ll see below. Sounds crazy to literally die for anything but Jesus gave up His life for us? Is it really that crazy or is He worth it all??
“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age’”
