“And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.”
A word I kept noticing throughout this passage was, “thankful.” I want to say if a word is repeated over and over again then it must be important right? Something I’ve started doing lately is writing a daily note card before I go to sleep. It’s got the next days tasks on there because without direction I’ve always been known to wander. Also, without a reminder, I probably won’t remember. I started with just tasks or things I have to do but something I started noticing that was extremely important in my life, the act of giving thanks or being thankful. I noticed it as important because the moments I wake up and give thanks to God for this life and everything in it, my attitude is completely different throughout the day. Instead of being in a selfish, complaining, a mentality that says “I need more because nothing is nothing.”
Being thankful has changed a lot for me but the biggest thing is bringing me to peace in Christ, knowing that He is enough, acknowledging that He is with me and I’m with Him at all times, this life I have today which is totally different than the life I had 3 years ago is all because of Christ. It’s all His doing. Being thankful brings us to such an awesome peace in knowing that Christ is present in our lives at all times, all we have is because of Him and all we will ever have moving forward can only come through His power and His grace. Being thankful sets everything in perspective. It changes the way we talk, walk and live in our daily lives and ultimately changes how we act before others. Not being thankful, striving for more because what we have is not enough, following selfish desires and wants, living in complaining. That mentality doesn’t go well when dealing with others, giving them the attention and love that they deserve doesn’t come easy when we’re in that mindset. But out of thankfulness, love for others comes out even more! Instead of worried about what you don’t have, being thankful for what you do have in Christ which is all you need brings more love, joy, and thankfulness for the people God has placed in our lives.
And the coolest part of giving thanks, it’s contagious like anything else. In everything you do, always give thanks through Christ who gives you life. When things aren’t going your way or you aren’t feeling it, give thanks! When it seems like everything that could go wrong is going wrong, give thanks! Because no matter what happens in this life, with Christ, we always have plenty to be thankful about! I don’t know if you’re like me and you need to write it down or keep it in front of you as a reminder but if you need to do that to be more thankful and remind yourself of all you have to be thankful for, take the time and set up a reminder for yourself. I promise you won’t be disappointed! Be thankful, be thankful and oh yeah, BE THANKFUL!!!!
