“Jesus went with him, and all the people followed, crowding around him. A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding. She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse. She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.” Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition. Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my robe?” His disciples said to him, “Look at this crowd pressing around you. How can you ask, ‘Who touched me?’” But he kept on looking around to see who had done it. Then the frightened woman, trembling at the realization of what had happened to her, came and fell to her knees in front of him and told him what she had done. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.””
I know, I know, once again I’ve got a lot of Word for you today in this final post of Rwanda Week but what takes place in this story about a woman suffering with bleeding is too great not to share every piece with you! Before we get to that, I want to share with you about this little fella you see above in the picture!
Before we left on what was my second trip to Rwanda, I had been working with the kids ministry at ONE church in Seneca, SC which is the church that these trips go through! We had an awesome idea to get the kids to write letters, draw pictures or whatever they wanted to send, then give them to the kids we would see there in Rwanda. It was a huge blessing to get to share my love for these children in Rwanda with the kids I love so much at ONE and to see God bring them together like that!!! Un-stinkin-believable!!! Kids in the United States sending these special notes to kids in Rwanda, two totally different cultures, lifestyles and needs on each side. Neither side knew of the other but with these pictures they would be connected forever!
Throughout the week, I had this folder loaded with letters written from the youth group and these beautifully decorated messages from the kids! It was so exciting to give these messages out and see the joy on each child’s face upon receiving them! We saw later in the week that most families had hung them up proudly on the mud walls of their houses. So so COOL!!!
Then it was the last day, I had only one letter left to give out and no idea who I would give it to. We were parked in front of a local store before we left the community we had been working in for the last time of the trip. I noticed this little boy. One day earlier we were in the same parking lot and this boy was there. I couldn’t tell much about him or why he was there but by the look of his clothes, it was easy to see some of what he went through. I don’t know if he had family, if he was there in search of food or what? I just know he was there and by himself, so the second time seeing him I started thinking about all these things. After spending the week with all of these kids and families in such great need, my heart was hurting for him in whatever his situation was. I was holding the folder and looked down at the last letter! BINGO!!! It was obvious in that moment that the letter belonged to this little boy.
I didn’t even look to see what it said until he was holding it up. “Jesus loves you.” Out of all the card could have said, it said the one thing, about the only One who can bring joy to this little boy’s life! A living hope in a hopeless situation, peace during turmoil, and provision in his times of need!!! I didn’t know if this kid could read so I asked my trusty sidekick, wingman, and translator Kenny to tell him in the language he’d understand that “Jesus loves you.” I’m not telling you this story to show you what I did, I was simply placed in a situation where God made it simple and easy to give, and through His Spirit that empowers us on this mission to spread the name of Christ, (Acts 1:8), this little boy got to know about Jesus. All I know is what the statement of truth that “Jesus loves you” had brought to my life, I’m so excited and almost in tears to think what Jesus and His awesome love will do in this little boy’s life!!!
In this story I shared above, this woman was hopeless, bleeding for 12 years, we obviously see her need but in our human minds we also probably think, she’s never going to get past her suffering. In our humanity we set the bar so low on what Jesus can do, and when we see needs, we are better at talking about them than taking them to Jesus where only He can do the impossible. This woman says, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.”
In her circumstance of impossible, she had faith that if she could just touch the robe of Jesus Christ, because of who He is and what He is capable of, “I can be healed.” In her need she took it to the only One who can meet her need. Jesus!!! She touches only the edge of Jesus’ robe and IMMEDIATELY she is HEALED!!! The power of Jesus Christ is so beyond what we can comprehend!!! This woman in extremely harsh and impossible circumstances, she showed us the only place to run is Jesus, only to touch the edge of His robe, to be with Jesus, to hear His Word and to spend time with Him. Jesus heals, Jesus brings hope, Jesus takes people in suffering to a life of His provision, joy, peace, and victory!!!!
I wanted to share that story to tell you that just one picture that says “Jesus loves you”, to simply touch the edge of His robe, Jesus can do anything, Jesus changes lives, Jesus does what no amount of money, program, or person can do!!! What’s so exciting is to think, what will happen to this little boy, will he really comprehend this letter, will Jesus’ love transform his life forever, what if he turns out to be a man of God, serving the Lord through Ministry one day??? It’s awesome to think of the possibilities of what can happen when Jesus is brought into people’s lives!!!!!
These kids and families in Rwanda are suffering, much like this lady, their situation so often looks hopeless, their needs are rarely met. BUT, what’s so awesome is to continue sharing with you about RCRI!!! Being Christ-centered in all they do, bringing Jesus into the lives of SO MANY people, just imagine what Jesus will do in all of the lives they are able to touch!!!! All of the lives that are able to touch the edge of Jesus’s robe?!?? What’s even more awesome is that through giving, you aren’t just handing over money or supporting a cause that feeds children in need. Although that is huge, your giving, whether through sponsoring a child of RCRI brings so much more than physical blessings to them, it brings them the chance to know Jesus, to touch the edge of His robe and He is worth more than anything they could ever attain!!! So, I’m calling on you, whether it’s just $20 per month is sponsorship of a little boy or girl, one time giving to RCRI, or whatever it is, it may not seem like much, heck it may not seem that important, but all a person needs is to touch the “edge of Jesus’ robe” and then imagine what your “little” “not very impacting” giving will do in the lives of so many children!!! Who knows what one moment of giving or one picture will do to bring Jesus into their hearts!!! Who knows what Jesus will use them for in the years to come!!! Isn’t that exciting to see that God has set up an opportunity to bring Jesus into the lives of so many through RCRI!!!! And God has given you the opportunity to be apart of it bring Jesus, hope to the hopeless, provision for those in need, Joy, peace and victory to all who receive the blessing of knowing “Jesus loves you.”
Heres the links once again for you to give and support bringing Jesus into lives of the children in Rwanda!!!! This opportunity here is not small or unimportant by any means, if it’s giving JESUS CHRIST to others, it’s HUGE, LIFE-CHANGING, and the most important thing we as followers of Him can ever do!!!!
