Sing a New Song

God Gold of the Day

“1 Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the godly!”
Psalm 149:1

Just ran across this verse last week and these few words really lit a fire under me! “Sing to the Lord a new song.” I’ll be honest, I’m not 100% sure the exact meaning and theology behind this verse from Psalms but for me, while I was reading this in the early morning before the day started, it stuck with me and I was blown away at how God opened up His Word!

Some days it can be extremely tough to wake up with joy, praising God with excitement for the day ahead. Whether it’s the same old routine, at the same old job, doing the same old thing, whatever it is in your life just focus in on this. We serve a God that is so mighty and awesome, He’s been beyond good to us for creating us, giving us life each day with the breaths we take, and saving us from a death that we deserved to have by sending His Son to die in our place. What a love that is!!! What incredible amounts of grace and mercy that God shows us through saving us and then, salvation isn’t it. It’s only the first big step of many with Him wrapping His loving arms around us! He has saved us, forgiven us, and set us free to live a full LIFE here and now on earth each day. He gives us the chance to stay close to Him, He gives us His Word to learn more about Him and His beautiful heart. He gives us complete access to Him in so many ways with the biggest being going to Him in prayer! He lets us seek Him, lay our problems at His feet and then in His faithfulness He answers our prayers EVERY SINGLE TIME! Giving us all we need to continue striving forward no matter how tough our situation is! His Word and His presence brings a level of peace to our life that is unexplainable to our tiny human minds to comprehend, strength and fuel to keep on keeping on, to live life in the fullest of ways in ways that please Him! And did I mention how this life with God isn’t it??!? This life He’s given us now with Him is only an extremely small dose of what’s to come, a teeny tiny piece compared to the life of eternity that He has set before us after we leave this world!! The God that created the heavens and the earth and everything in it!!!

I say all that to just broaden your image of God this morning so you can see that to “sing to the Lord a new song,” despite all the old we have in our lives. Despite all the pain and failures of yesterday, the mistakes we’ve made and the hard situations we dealt with. Despite everything that we’ve experienced yesterday that we tend to always carry as baggage with us into each new day. Despite all that not so great stuff, we serve an oh so great God and He’s given us more than enough to lay down our yesterday’s and sing a NEW song to Him today!! It’s because of who He is and the always faithful, endless love that He gives us, each day we have the opportunity to sing a NEW song to the Lord!!!

I so often get caught up in my yesterday’s that it holds me up in my right now. The good thing is, having this relationship with God, my experiences yesterday mean nothing when compared to the mighty God I serve!!! For the unlimited power and grace He brings to our lives we don’t have to live in today based off of how we messed up yesterday! He gives us new breath, new life, and a new song to sing as we arise each day because this life we have with Christ, the awesome message of the Gospel is a song that plays over our daily lives, a song that says “yesterday is gone, forgiven, and forgotten, today I stand with God as a child of God and in His loving presence all is possible, this new life begins with each moment with Him!!!! If you haven’t already, warm up the vocal chords and let the newness of life God brings to us each day wash away yesterday!!! SING A NEW SONG TO THE LORD!!!!
