Mission

God Gold of the Day

‘God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.’

Psalm 46:1-11

Today was tough in many different ways for me. I all around struggled to keep my eyes on God, with my eyes going many different places, without God at the lead of my life I struggled. Today was also a day where this time last year I was on an airplane headed across the world to serve in the mission field of Rwanda. The team is currently on their way on this years trip and I struggled with the fact that I’m not with them. The last couple of years on two trips to this beautiful country, God completely changed my life in so many ways. I could never put to words the work God did on my heart while on these trips but after meeting new people and those people quickly becoming family to me, sitting at home waiting to see the Rwanda team’s facebook updates has not sat well with me.

It’s tough to step away from those BIG, life-changing moments and settle in to everyday life with work, to-do lists, and all of the mundane things we do every day. The truth I realized this morning while my heart was so restless was in these verses. Even though I’m not on those trips this year, even though I’m sitting at home instead of flying to Rwanda, God is still the same God here as He was while I was there. God is still there for me as my refuge and my strength, He is in full control of our lives and this wild world we live in. As much as I want to question it and say, “why God?” These verses brought me to peace knowing that God is in control, if He wanted me on that mission for Him then I’d be there. As I see that door being shut, seeing the truth of God’s presence in my life whether I’m at the grocery store, at work, or in the mission field, I can rest in the fact that I’m right where God wants me and there His “mission” is right here in front of me! It’s hard to see it that way at times but it’s BIGGER than what our eyes can see. I took such comfort today in these truths from God’s Word, just hearing,

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.’

Instead of running in circles of insecurity and being anxious, it’s those simple words, just STOP!!! Be still, stop overthinking, stop relying on your own vision or what the world tells you and just STOP!!! And God speaks, “Be still and know that I am God.” Being still is easier said than done but being still and putting everything else around me to the side, thinking and stepping into God’s constant presence, know that He is God, He is in control, He is at work for my good, He is my fortress that I can rest securely in, trusting in His provision, faithfulness, and protection. To be still was dificult for me today and it usually is everyday but being still allowed me to see the truth. No matter where we go, what we do, or what we think, God is going to be exalted across this earth. To think about that and see how God doesn’t need me because He will be exalted with or without me. He may not need us but He calls us, chooses us, uses us. How awesome is that?!?!? God is God and I am not, be still and rest in where God has placed you, the people He has placed around you, trust that the God who created all that we see around us knows exactly what He is doing so with God on our side, we can be still and rest in His presence, embrace the calling of loving others as He loves us, and just continue being still, resting in Him.

Also, I want to ask for a prayer request from you today. The mission team is on the way to Rwanda and I just ask that you lift them up today in your prayers. Pray that God will provide all they need to attack this mission for Him, that God will provide them strength to continue serving despite how tired they may be, that God would give them wisdom and discernment to speak and serve the people of Rwanda in the most glorifying way possible. Pray that God would open up their hearts and eyes to see God in new and bigger ways but also the people they are serving would be impacted greatly from their faithfulness. Pray that God will use them in a mighty way and that lives will be forever changed, exalting God above all.

Don’t just pray for them but let’s all take some time to pray for all the missionaries God has called to go and serve. Whether that’s in foreign countries or right here at home. Pray for each fellow believer that they would live each day on mission, embrace the opportunities God has placed around them to share how good He is whether that’s at their jobs, at the grocery store, wherever, whatever and whoever! If we are breathing, we are on mission! Excited to embrace this new vision of seeing that being on “mission” doesn’t have to be in the mission field, it’s simply where God has us right now around the people God has set before us in our path!

    • Thank you for that encouragement! It’s been an extremely tough to remind myself of that but it’s awesome to have believers like you striving towards it with me! And thank you so much for those prayers! I know the team will greatly appreciate them!!!
