I don’t know if you’ve seen this video floating around the internet lately but as soon as I saw it today, I got so hype at all the God Gold Mr. Tebow was spitting!!! Whether you follow sports or not Tim Tebow, former Heisman trophy winner and now pro baseball player, he has always spoken out for his faith and been a great example of what following Christ looks like on any platform! It’s so awesome hearing him speak the truth to the world! It’s also extremely encouraging to hear what he says. “Keep perspective and not letting other people define you.” I so often make decisions, do certain things or don’t do certain things because of other’s opinions. What will they think? Will they look at me differently? I struggle with this at times when I type these messages, I get caught in this people pleasing fear so I hold back some stuff or I try to make it sound pretty. I’ve learned the hard way, it’s impossible to please everybody and trying to holds you back from pleasing the only One that matters, God. It was so great hearing him speak about the fear and doubt of trying to please people, especially the naysayers, I know I’ve felt that, I’m sure we all have, but we don’t have to stay there.
Just hitting how life-changing knowing your identity can be from yesterday’s gold, all that matters is what God says about you, you are loved, accepted, forgiven. So let’s put all the negative and outside noise to the side and keep our hearts and minds focused on who God says you are, His child, free, and victorious Child of God!!!! WOOOO!!!! Be defined by your identity in Christ and nothing else!!! Then live, just step out the bed today and just live! Nothing and nobody can hurt you, just start walking into the world in God’s perspective and get excited because God has given you the chance to show others in this world how good God is and how good this life is with Him!!! So so GOOOD!!!! Hope this lights a fire under ya today and opens up your perspective goggles!! I love you and God loves you so so much more!!
“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.”
“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.”
I’m super thankful to be able to share these messages with you! As much as these truths in God’s Word helps me and encourages me, I share these with the hope that they may be an encouragement to you also and build you up closer and stronger with the Lord! These verses today came from my youth pastor from earlier years, he’s been sending out daily verses for years and years now. Since I’ve been in high school which is awhile ago so it’s awesome how encouragement flows through and out of the Word! Gosh dang God’s Word is awesome and I’m super thankful for each and everyone of you!
I was having one of those mornings today, didn’t get much sleep, didn’t want to be at work, was mad at the world and walked around throwing a pity party for myself saying “oh poor me.” For a moment I wanted to be mad, I wanted to act how I thought I deserved to act, which was sorry for myself and mad. Then these verses came up!!! The context surrounding these verses is living the new life we have in Christ. Then it hit me all at once! I was looking at verse 17 thinking how can I represent Christ by what I do? Then saw the end of the verse, “giving thanks to God.” For a moment I was like, well, I don’t have anything to be thankful for right now. Because I was listening to the enemy pour lies into my head, saying “I’m tired, I deserve to have a bad attitude, I don’t want to be here.”
It hit me why I should be thankful and verse 1 finished it off, “Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.” My identity was in how I felt and my circumstances instead of where my true identity is. Realizing I’ve been raised to new life with Christ, WOW! Setting my sights above on Him and what He’s done, the pain, the sacrifice, the blood He bled all so I could have life with Him in abundance and for eternity!!! He didn’t do that so I could roll around in my self pity, have a bad attitude that is a cancer to others around me, and feel like a victim, “poor old me.”
Realizing my true identity in Christ and what it took to give me this identity, started having some pep in my step, a little bit of swagger! I’ve heard this a million times but now it makes so much sense, your identity forms your actions and attitude. After seeing where my identity was, WITH CHRIST, my actions and attitude began to do a 360! I’m a child of God, forgiven, loved, free and victorious child of God, so every action I take and every word I speak is as a representative of Jesus Christ. When we live with our eyes set high and your identity in Christ, your actions and attitude begin to change drastically. It doesn’t matter how you feel or how bad your circumstances are, that’s not your identity. Your identity is in Christ, unlike your feelings or circumstances that will NEVER change! So there’s no excuse to not live in complete thankfulness of this new life and identity with Jesus that He has sacrificed Himself to give you! Instead of looking at situations throughout your day and saying “ugh, I have to go to work, I have to do this or that,” when eyes high in your new ID, “I have to” quickly changes to “I GET TO.”
This just isn’t for when you’re feeling down or having one of those days, this is every moment of every day. I was at work trying to be a better serve the Lord better and be a rep for Him but I couldn’t do it. So often I find myself trying to fix my circumstances, my feelings, and change my attitude and actions but it’s impossible to change WHAT you do if you don’t even know WHO you are. Your identity, who you are, forms your actions and attitude.
Think with me on this for a second, can you imagine what living in your true identity with Christ, making decisions as a representative of Jesus Christ Himself, serving Him in thankfulness for the LIFE He’s given you. Just think what happens the more you live in this truth?!?!!! Think about all the change you’ve been wanting to make to what you do, your actions, bad habits, addictions, attitude. If you know WHO you are are, the WHAT’s in your life will take care of themselves. The more decisions you make from this truth today will bring you closer and closer to being who God has made you to be tomorrow!!! Let’s get it today!!!! Live in the truth of WHO you are!!!! The WHAT’s will be right behind ya!
“Through faith in the name of Jesus, this man was healed—and you know how crippled he was before. Faith in Jesus’ name has healed him before your very eyes.”
Heard multiple sermons from the book of Acts today. In Acts there is so much wild stuff going on, you’ve got the beginning of the early church, the Holy Spirit is brought upon believers, disciples are scattering out everywhere to spread the Gospel, 3,000 people get saved at Pentecost and in Acts 3 through the power of the Holy Spirit, a lame man who hasn’t been able to walk his whole life jumps up and takes off running around praising the Lord! It’s safe to say that during this time it was quite a time to be a Christian!
The biggest lesson learned all day looking at these crazy miracles that have taken place, it’s easy to look at the miracles and think we’ve got the Holy Spirit dwelling within us right? Why don’t we see or make miracles happen like this? Or we get upset and feel like we’re not good enough if we can’t do what these guys were doing. The big lesson throughout these sermons today was screaming at me right in my face!!!! It’s not about me, it’s not about you, it’s not about Peter or any of these apostles, IT’S JESUS!!!!! And only JESUS!!!! That’s it. Miracles of healing seem so crazy and huge but when you look to what was at the root of these miracles and people getting saved, IT’S JESUS!!!!
You know what’s so encouraging and gives so much freedom to our lives? Knowing that we don’t have to go out and work ourselves to death trying to make miracles happen, try to heal ourselves from personal addictions or struggles, heal someone else. we don’t have to base our power and expectations off of what we’ve got because it doesn’t matter either way.
With faith in the name of Jesus Christ, that’s where miracles happen big or small, healing takes place, walls of addictions are knocked down, literally anything is possible!!! How awesome is it that we can rest in the peace, joy, and security we have in having the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us and a personal relationship with the Son of God?!?!? There are plenty of principles, cool ways to say things or interpret scripture but at the end of the day God’s Word always brings us back to the source of the power and faithfulness of God which is seen in our lives through Jesus Christ! Before we can ever see the WHAT happen in our lives, we first have to sit back and recognize the WHO which is Jesus Christ! With Jesus at the lead, there ain’t no telling what’ll happen next but I promise you it’s going to be daggum awesome!!!! It’s JESUS CHRIST, just Jesus!!!!
Found this little story on http://godslittleacre.net/funnies/ and thought it was too good not to share. I usually try to find some humor for ya on the Son-day Surprise but this story just ends up being…..well you’ll see! Hope everyone has a great Sunday getting fed from the Word and worshiping the One who deserves it all!!! I don’t know if you can see it or feel it yet but I got a feeling this upcoming week is going to be a good one! Let’s rest and prepare today so we can get up and get after it on Monday! Look Velma Lou got that thumbs up! She agrees! Love y’all!
“I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven’s door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.
But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp–
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics and the trash.
There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money! Twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
Who never said anything nice.
Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.
I nudged Jesus, ‘What’s the deal?
Would love to hear Your take.
How’d all these sinners get up here?
God must’ve made a mistake.
‘And why’s everyone so quiet,
So somber – give me a clue.’
‘Hush, child,’ He said, ‘they’re all in shock.
No one thought they’d be seeing you.’
Remember…Just going to church doesn’t make you a Christian
Any more than…Standing in your garage makes you a car.”
“A cheerful heart is good medicine” (Prov. 17:22)”
“When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!” Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there).Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.”
I know yesterday I mentioned taking self-evaluation and paying attention to what you do, why you do it, what can you do better, just things of that nature. It’s wild what the Lord shows you when you ask Him to show you the truth about yourself whether it hurts or not. I’ve noticed a big thing that I’ve always struggled with especially with my time in the Word and typing these messages, I like to complicate things. You know what I’m talking about? The truth could be staring me right in the face, x+y=z, but I start thinking like I’m Einstein, overthinking really, and by the end of writing out this big huge formula, I lose track of the simple answer, just z. In our case, at times we can find ourselves doing this in our relationship with the Lord. Not that there’s even an equation to it but if there was it’d simply be this; God+you=Loving relationship with God. Everything else takes care of itself after our relationship with the Lord is connected together in loving fellowship. Whether it’s spending time with the Lord in His Word, talking to Him in prayer, or just anytime with Him. There’s no need to throw in all these other numbers and letters into the formula, it’s literally as simple as God and you, you and God. I do this with these messages but isn’t it the same as our daily walk with the Lord? We run in circles trying to make it sound better, make it prettier, throw in some stuff that makes us feel good, but at the end of the day there’s no need for all that running around. It’s a simple love with a simple Savior, who works in simple ways. That’s it. It’s simple.
Looking at these verses today from the story of Jesus feeding the multitude. There is so so much that can be taken away from this story and as much as I’d love to run you through all that, I’m afraid you’ll miss the main point, heck I’m afraid I’ll miss the main point. So simplify. Here we go. Jesus sees the crowd coming and asks Phillip this question, ““Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” The funny part about this question is Jesus already knew what He was going to do, He knew the solution. But Jesus asks Phillip anyways. And when I read Phillip’s response I thought, “hmm, that sounds familiar.” That’s such a human response. Phillip is looking at it and thinking of the solution in his horizontal human lens because yeah, it would take more than a half years pay to feed these people. He’s got Jesus, the Son of God, who has already shown them what He’s capable of right in front of him but in realistic terms it’s impossible. I’m sure Phillip was thinking, well we don’t even have a job, so we’d have to get on indeed, get my resume out there, find a place to work, then maybe after a half a year or so we could buy food for all these people. Jesus does this to us all the time. We have questions come up in our life, troubles or problems that test us. Jesus allows us to go off our ideas for awhile where we complicate things and run in circles. Then at the end of the day when our huge fancy ideas don’t bring a solution, we are back to Jesus asking, “well Lord, I thought that plan was bulletproof but it wasn’t, what do you think we should do?”
ENTER JESUS. Jesus uses this test for Phillip and the tests we undergo to show us to lift our eyes from the horizontal because our answers are vertical. Not in what we physically see but what we believe and trust in, Who is out of this world, Jesus! We complicate it and try to do things our way but it’s simple. Jesus is right there, the Son of God is RIGHT THERE in front of us and we still so often find a way to look past Him. Jesus shows by feeding these people that we don’t have to trust in Jesus to meet our physical needs but that He is the BREAD OF LIFE, Jesus will meet our every need. The answers sometimes seem so far away or impossible to see but HEY, look in front of you, look into God’s Word, speak to the Lord and connect with Him through your prayer phone. With a relationship with the Son of God, we no longer have to look to our capabilities or our witty plans to meet our needs, we just have to trust. Trust that Jesus is going to provide just like He did yesterday and has done so many days before. It’s so stinkin simple it blows my mind!!! Jesus is the answer, the one and only answer we’ll ever need, the answer that solves all our problems and takes what we see as “so little” and turns it into more than you need! Jesus gives us a simple message here. Go to Him for your answers. He’s right there in front of you. Trust Him. He will provide in ways that you never could’ve imagined. Why? Because He’s Jesus and He loves you. That’s it but that’s plenty.
