“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Hope everyone had an awesome weekend! It’s the start of a new week with brand new opportunities on the horizon of our lives. Of course you want to get the week started on the right foot, having a good start that starts with Monday. The crucial part about starting Monday’s off on the right foot is the same as any other day, starting with God. I’ve been learning this lesson the hard way lately, by starting your day off with God, the truth and light He brings into our lives completely changes our perspective before we ever step foot in the world. Many days I have failed to start with the Lord and by not doing so, trusting in what I got, I notice how easily enticed we can be by the darkness of this world. Starting with God today led me to this verse and if you read the verse you can already guess that my day got off to a God start.
This world can be a tough place to live and being the weak, easily enticed humans we are, it doesn’t take long to realize the importance of getting the day started with God is a major need. I’ve noticed how easily my perspective on everything is influenced by my thoughts, beliefs and focus. Without starting with God, it’s like starting the day in a fog, you can’t see anything clearly, your thoughts are a mess, and you feel defeated. I’m not saying you have to start the day in a scheduled Bible time or devotion even though that helps. There is so many ways to start the day with God and so many opportunities to spend that time with Him. We go into the week and each day with our perspective playing such a big role. What you believe and focus on is how you’ll see your day. Tomorrow is Monday and so often we here all this negative about Monday, “ughh, Monday’s suck, the work week starts and I’m dreading it.” The key thing about starting your day, starting the week, is your perspective. You can see Monday or each day this week in one of two ways. A new week brings more troubles, struggles and to-do lists and that just sucks. I can’t wait til the weekend gets here. OR, you can see the new week as new opportunities, new challenges to face, the chance to get better, a new day God has given you to live and enjoy.
That’s a big difference right? So often we are consumed of the “trouble” Jesus mentions we will face in this world but we don’t really see what else Jesus says, have peace and take heart because Jesus has overcome the world. Jesus has brought deliverance and victory to our lives!!! No matter what the world around us says, the lies the enemy constantly pours in our head about the failures of our past and why we deserve to feel defeated even act defeated. Jesus has won the victory over Satan and the world giving us complete freedom and peace to live in!!! What you focus on and believe is how you live and act. Jesus has given us life, freedom and victory in this life, when we focus and believe His truth, the troubles of this world aren’t troubles anymore. The nasty Monday’s aren’t so nasty. Jesus gives us a perspective shift here, bringing His light to break up that defeated fog. Getting the day and week off to a God start, we see life through His truth, and our perspective is raised. Because Jesus rose from the grave on the third day, in that moment when He was holding our victory, our perspective was raised also.
Instead of “I have to”, we can say “I get to.” Instead of the failures of yesterday we can focus on Jesus’ victory from the grave that still reigns true today. Instead of feeling wrapped up by defeat, we can live victoriously. Instead of looking to the week ahead as more troubles and struggles, in Jesus’ raised up perspective, being an overcomer through Christ, troubles turn to opportunities to get stronger, struggles are now seen as challenges. It’s all in how you see it. If you start the day in what God has told us in His Word, the light and truth it brings to the dark fog wanting nothing more than to overtake us. Your perspective will be lifted, you can see you’re an overcomer through Christ, He has already overcome the world and all it’s troubles so we have nothing to worry about but everything to get jacked up and daggun excited about! Start today, each day, and this week with God’s perspective, get off to a God start!!! If you hear someone else struggling to make it, share this verse with them, encourage them through the fact they don’t have to live that negative defeated lifestyle anymore, help raise their perspective! That’s what this life is all about. As easily as our perspective can be raised by Christ, we can easily let the world lower it. I need this reminder just as much as you do so hold tight to the truth that Jesus has overcome the world, hold tight to this victory we have in Christ, and help others hold tight too! Have a God start to the week everybody!!!!
Got a little Sunday funny for ya today! I think you’ll get a good belly laugh out of this one! Hope everyone has an awesome Sunday worshiping the One who gave us the chance to laugh in the first place! And get rested up for the week! It’s going to be a good one!!!
“These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
I’m extremely excited to share this Gold with you today! Had to dig deep in the mine but when it comes to God’s Word, it’s always worth digging for to find His Gold! Worry is something I’ve really struggled with the past few months of my life. I’ve noticed in this world we live in with so many moving parts, going so fast all the daggum time, and the devil seems to keep scheming up more and more clever ways to get at us, worry happens and when it does it can lead to some nasty stuff. Self-doubt, depression, all sorts of insecurities. A feeling honestly like you’re a dragon and with each moment, each person you come in contact with you’ve got this fire building up inside you ready to explode.
So worry sucks pretty bad. Been learning a lot lately from the Lord on how to handle worry and these verses just capped it off! My biggest problem with worry is worrying about the future. I get so caught up in tomorrow, my dreams, what will happen, and unfortunately when I do this I’m not a great person and I don’t treat others the way they should be treated. It’s like your eyes are so focused worrying about tomorrow that you look past the people and relationships God has put in front of you right now. It’s a crappy way to serve and love people the way they deserve and it’s just not fun.
You see when I worry about tomorrow, get caught up in my plans, my dreams, I don’t just look past people, I look past today’s opportunities that God has given me to serve. God says just worry about today because there is enough concerns right in front of you. That makes so much sense now. I think dreaming is awesome and people should have a vision and goals for their life, but what can happen is if we focus so much on what’s to come. We miss out on the hard work and steps on this journey of life we have to take to get to where God wants us. If you overlook today’s opportunities and work, what good is dreams, you’ll never get there.
I’ll be honest I got pissed at myself earlier looking at the times I’ve wasted and relationships I put to the side, and most of all the fun of life. So worried about tomorrow that I wasn’t even having fun. It just hit me after seeing God’s truth staring me right in the face about Who He is and the fact that I have a relationship with such a loving, good, and providing God!! How awesome is that??? God tells us simply how He is there for us providing everything we need to win the day in front of us. So with that I mind, what are we worried about?
An example that hit me today, you know when you’re watching a football or baseball game. Sometimes the wide receiver gets a perfect throw from the quarterback but his eyes are already so focused on the running for the touchdown that he turns to quick and drops the ball. It’s the same way in baseball, ball gets hit to a fielder and they get so zoned in on throwing the runner out that they move too quickly and don’t even catch the ball. It’s an easy mistake to make, we get so focused on scoring or making a play that we don’t even catch the ball so we can’t run for the touchdown or throw anybody out. The good thing for us, God is our quarterback and He is always going to throw the ball right where we need it so we can make the catch. The big lesson here that I know I’ve repeated but it’s so crucial. We have to focus in on catching the passes God throws our way today if we are ever going to get a touchdown.
These verses just brought such a peace about me today. Seeing that God already knows our every need, He is faithful to fulfill our needs and give us everything we need to live a life that pleases Him. He is taking us through today’s concerns preparing us for tomorrow’s dreams being fulfilled. Having God as a quarterback throwing those passes right where we need them constantly, that gives me so much peace and so much joy in just living life with God. Serving, loving and having fun in each day catching His passes, taking every opportunity He sets in front of us with the vision and dream still in mind but our worries staying in right now, leaving them with God.
We’re not meant to be able carry the burdens of tomorrow’s unknown on our shoulders. We can try to find an answer or control the situation but we have to remember to catch the perfect pass God throws at us today first. Seek Him first above all else, live, serve and love with Him and for Him. Only He is in control of what happens tomorrow and only He can get you there! He already knows where to throw the ball, exactly what we need, we already know He’s going to give us everything we need to catch it, so let’s just live man. Enjoy each pass thrown your way today, attack each opportunity, and God will take care of the touchdowns. How freeing and comforting is that?!?! God’s going to do an awesome work in your life and He’s to provide for you every step of the journey. Just trust Him and live. Embrace today with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind, having God at the lead today will make your tomorrow’s better than you could have ever imagined!
“Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.””
So I was reading John 13 in my devotion this morning and went through the passage about Jesus washing the disciples feet. I’m sure you’re the same way, we’ve always heard one big takeaway from this passage and that’s Jesus’ example of humble service in washing the disciples feet. I mean that is the big takeaway but the cool part about God’s Word is so much of God’s wisdom and goodness can be taken away from even one simple verse! When I was reading through this I wanted so bad to make a claim to already know the point of these verses, no point to read it right? But it was humbling and so eye opening to see God say “not so fast homie.”
Ran across this verse and it just hit me like a ton of bricks! It’s right in the middle of these moments at the Last Supper, Jesus, the Son of God is literally humbling himself to the form of a slave under the disciples and serving them with the purest forms of love. Crazy to think Jesus would do this right? Crazy to think that even tho we are sinful, weak, and undeserving humans, He still washes our feet today! He cleans us from every spot of sin when He laid His life down on the cross for me and you. This one verse stuck out because while Jesus is talking to Peter about to wash his feet, Peter isn’t having it. Peter didn’t feel worthy of this service from the Son of God and rightfully so. So Peter is like “no Jesus don’t do that” then when Jesus explains Himself more, Peter is like “oh well you might as well wash my hands too.” Peter is so confused at what Jesus is doing, he has no idea what to say or do. He tries tries to say all the right things that Jesus may want to hear but he’s so messed up at Jesus’ feet washing, he just sounds crazy.
When I read this verse and then hearing Peters wild, confused responses that I had a lot in common with, it made a lot of sense on how often this relationship with Jesus and watching what He does, the truth He speaks in our lives, it makes a lot of sense how often that Jesus doesn’t make sense to us. It’s so hard for us to understand Jesus, what He says, the things He does. Seeing Jesus say this statement to Peter, you may not understand now what I’m doing but you will, there was so many times on the disciples journey with Jesus going town to town ministering to people, that Jesus would do something, a random act of service or an amazing miracle, or Jesus would say something that just didn’t make a lick of sense. It’s awesome to look at this example of all the times the disciples were looking at each other clueless as to what Jesus was doing but this statement by Jesus provides comfort and confidence for us in our lack of understanding of His heavenly ways.
Why we don’t understand Jesus is because we are far from the Godly perfection that He attains and everything Jesus teaches us or shows us is the exact opposite of what we are constantly surrounded by daily in this world. A person hits you or yells at you, our perception is to get upset, hit them back, yell at them! Jesus says turn the other cheek, pray for your neighbor and love them just as He has loved us. The list goes on and on of all the things we think and what the world tells us, then Jesus just hits the reversal button on it. I think about the times in my life when I’m most confused, THE STRUGGLE! For the believer, the struggle is real and hold on, there’s a reason for that. Our struggle doesn’t make sense, in those moments we don’t see Jesus working because He only works on the good things right? The tough moments of life, when we are going through battles, facing circumstances that seem like Goliath to us, financial problems, job problems, family problems, addiction problems, and the problems are endless. What we fail to see so often is what Jesus says in this verse. What seems like just a big mean nasty struggle, Jesus says “you don’t understand what I’m doing but some day you will.”
In the moment, we are hurt, depressed, anxious, and most of all confused but remember that reversal that Jesus does. Although it seems really really bad, the world tells us to give up, you’ll never be good enough, stop trying, we don’t understand it now but Jesus says you will!! Out of all the struggles I’ve had in my life, looking back it’s easy to remember how confused and worried I was but now I understand it. I can see now that the struggles I had yesterday, Jesus was taking me through this process of cleaning. He was taking all the lies I tended to believe from the world, the instincts of being scared of struggles, He was taking those off me and cleaning me. He was renewing my mind to think in God’s ways instead of my own, renewing me to see life through His reversal glasses instead of my human vision. He was cleaning me of the bad and sinful habits and creating me anew. During these times I thought Jesus was nowhere to be seen because my struggle sucked but actually Jesus was teaching me, growing me, strengthening me. He was teaching me how to lean on Him and not my weak self. In the moment it didn’t make any sense and I wanted to buy the world’s lie, “just give up.” But the whole time Jesus has been hard at work, preparing me for the next battles ahead.
This verse gives so much confidence and peace to know that even though the life situation we are in doesn’t make one lick of sense, Jesus is cleaning us, He says it’s okay I know this cleaning doesn’t make sense right now and you probably don’t even realize you’re being cleaned but you’ll understand it one day. In the chaos and confusion we face everyday, no matter how much it doesn’t make sense, take Jesus’s example and Words to heart. Serve and humble yourself, live in light of His amazing reversals and trust that despite your lack of understanding, Jesus is doing a work that is making tomorrow’s version of you more and more into the image of Him. The world says give up, strive forward. The world says get mad, love more. The world says be the best, serve as the least. It may not make sense right now but your future self will thank you for continuing to trust in what Jesus is doing.
This story is one that I had heard when I was younger but has always stuck with me! How awesome is it to know that during the lowest and hardest points of life, we don’t have to walk alone, God carries us. The moments where we can’t go any farther, He is there for us, loving us and picking us up even when we don’t deserve it! What an awesome God we serve!!! Rest in the comfort and care of the Lord today!!! Even if nobody else has you, He has you, and that’s all you’ll ever need!! Have an awesome Thursday!!! Get up and get after! God is with you, who or what can you fear?? Not a daggun thing! Let’s get it!!!
“One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You’d walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”
He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”
