This is a piece of Old Gold that I had sent out awhile back but I’m excited to share it with you and I pray it can be an encouragement to you today!
Matthew 5:16/ “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
1 Corinthians 15:33/ “Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
Being a Christ-like example for others is something that I’ve personally struggled with and when put around bad situations the struggle becomes even bigger. In the world we live in, we are going to be put around bad associations or bad situations at some point or another. Sometimes I see myself as being more of a closet light, just a little light that barely gets seen while the rest of the house is dark. The Lord doesn’t want us to be closet lights. He has blessed us with the power of the Holy Spirit, so we can walk out His teachings from the Word and put them to use in any situation especially the bad ones. When we are trusting and walking in that power, we are too powerful to just be the closet light, He gives us the power that brings light throughout the whole house no matter how dark it is. Associating with people who also have the power is iron sharpening iron but that doesn’t mean we should shy away from the dark places cause that’s the chance to show how strong His light is. Jesus spent the majority of His ministry associating in the darkest of places cause when Jesus walked in the house, the house was LIT. We can have the faith of a closet light and barely shine, or we can have the faith of the power, in Jesus, making any house, situation, crowd of people LIT from how bright His light is shining through us. Let’s make it LIT!!!
“For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.”
When I was growing up in church, I was always in and out, hearing what I wanted to hear and not really paying attention to a lot of the Word brought forth by the men of God in front of me. Through the years, there was one thing that always stood out and it took me a lotta years of going my way to see the truth and power behind it. There was a pastor that preached several years at my church growing up that would always make everybody stand when he read the Scripture during the service. Preacher Jimmy is what everyone called him, the man that baptized me in a horse trough while our church was being rebuilt. He would say, “everyone stand in reverence to the reading of God’s Word.” I never had a clue why we stood but it makes a whole lot more sense these days than it did then.
After digging into God’s Word and the impact that the powerful truths found in each verse has had, there is still days where even though I send these messages out, I find myself picking out verses that fit for the day. There are still a lot of days where I fail to pick up the Word and look intentionally into what the Lord has for me. These verses in Psalms show the magnitude of just how powerful God’s Word is; “For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm,” By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.”
Think about that for a minute. We have access to the Word of God, the same God and same voice Who spoke all of this around us, me and you into existence. How powerful is His Word and how awesome is it that He left us so much of His Word of truth to live by, learn from, and grow closer to Himself. It’s crazy thinking about all the days I fail to dig into His Word, not just pick it up, find something that sounds good and roll with it but really digging into His Word with deep intentions. Digging into His Word like it’s all I got, like my life depends on it because honestly when our word is compared to His, our life really does depend on what He has spoken to us. Noticing the power sitting right in front of me, I wonder how I can so often overlook it’s importance in my life and the fact that the truth and promises He’s left for us in there holds such chain breaking, life-changing power, bring hope when there isn’t any and continually showing us just how much we need God’s presence in our lives. It makes a lot of sense now when I think about why Preacher Jimmy asked us to stand because His Word deserves our upmost reverence and priority. With the new year here and so many resolutions being made, I’m making a challenge to myself and you also that we make a point to dig deeper each day into God’s powerful Word. Making Him the center of everything we do and standing firm in the voice He has in our lives. Just think, if everything was created at His Word, what can His Word change in our lives? What addictions, struggles, or worries can He completely turn the tide of in our daily walk with Him? It’s crazy to think of the possibilities because there is no limit to what He can do!
Now, today, and each day moving forward, “lets stand in the reverence to the reading of God’s Word.”
2 Corinthians 5:17/“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come”
Ephesians 4:22-24/“To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Romans 6:4/“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
As you may have noticed, not only is it a new year but the God Gold of the Day page has got a new look!! Big THANKS to a great friend giving me some new logos for Christmas! It’s awesome how on this mission with Christ to spread His truth in whatever way we can, He places so much support and love around us to keep us moving forward on this adventure with Him! I’m completely humbled to send these messages out everyday and watch the Lord work through them. To kick off all the “new new” going on, thought I’d share some Scripture that reminds us of the new life we have in Christ. From the first moment of professing His name as our Lord and Savior, Christ raises us into a new life as One with Him, a life with Him that changes everything about our old life in the flesh without Him. The cool thing is that I so often forget, this new life with Christ doesn’t just start one day when we pass away from this world and join Him, eternity starts here and now! He’s given us life here with Him, the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit residing inside of each believer, life with Him compared to the old life; from hopelessness to hope, from impossible to sooo possible, from weak to powerful, from despair to peace and joy, this is what happens when we begin our new lives with Christ. The old person we used to be and live life off what we had doesn’t have to be anymore, Christ has laid down our old life and now we begin anew with Him. I don’t know about you but the days I’ve lived off what I got never ended up too great, days living defeated. The struggle now comes with laying that old weak life to rest and embracing the LIFE of freedom and victory over anything the world throws in our path today and everyday. I pray the Lord teaches us how to put away our old self and put on the fresh, unlimited life we have with Him!!!
““I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.””
Hope everyone has a great New Years!!! Excited about this Gold today and pray it can be an encouragement to you!! Got the chance to do something I’ve never done before last night and wow, this truth became even bigger than ever before. The church I grew up at reached out to me asking if I’d preach their Sunday night service last night, of course I jumped on it!! It was the most humbling day of my life getting to bring the Word to so many people who had loved and impacted my life in such a big way through the years. It meant so much to me so of course I was trying to prepare the best most perfect sermon ever and blow the doors off that place. Throughout the process of preparation and speaking I kept coming back to the same truth, if it’s up to me I wouldn’t stand a chance but thank God it doesn’t have to be up to me.
Throughout the battle this week it was a push and pull of getting myself out of the way and stepping into what the Lords power and plan. The hardest part was getting myself out of the way, putting my selfish wants and desires aside, realizing I don’t have what it takes but only through Christ, only He can do anything. Nobody would learn anything from me but it’s Jesus, He’s the only One that’s changed my life, the only One who can change your life. It’s all Jesus. I had started the week wanting to speak about New Years Resolutions and the more I got to looking at Jesus, just how powerful, loving and awesome He is, He’s too big to limit to just a one year goal or limit to anything, Jesus is unlimited and what He can do through us, UNLIMITED!!!
This verse just kept hitting me all week because Jesus tells us straight up what we have to look forward to in this life, today, tomorrow, and everyday.
Jesus speaks His life changing Word to us so IN HIM, as born again believers we are ONE in Christ, SUPER BIG NOTE!! We can have peace knowing the Son of God is with us at all times, no matter how bad things get or look in our eyes, Jesus is there meeting us in the middle of our struggle, always reaching out His hand to pick us up when we fall, forgive us where we mess up and set us firmly on His Word where He gives us everything we need to keep moving forward, taking those next steps out of what we got (impossible) and into what He has, His power, His life changing, chain breaking love, the wild and awesome adventure He has set out for us. Where we see impossible, Jesus says more than possible.
Big thing to note again if you’re super excited, setting your goals, getting all hyped up for the new year. I’m the king of hype when it comes to this stuff but what always takes away the excitement and makes me want to run back to my comfort zone like a dog with his tail between his legs, THE RESISTANCE. Not the one in Star Wars, the resistance we face everyday. That’s what’s so cool about these verses, Jesus tells us to EXPECT the resistance, don’t be surprised when a few weeks or a month from now things start getting tough, resistance starts hitting you and you wanna give up. EXPECT the hits to come, Jesus tells us it’s gonna come whether we like it or not but what Jesus also says!!!
EMBRACE the resistance!!! No matter how bad it gets, no matter how bad you wanna give up and run back to your old life, your comfort zone, Jesus tells us that He is with us at all times in this battle and Jesus gives us the most comforting, chain breaking, hope, “I have overcome the world.”
WOOO!!! How bout that! Nothing or no one in this world can hurt us because Jesus has already won the victory!!!! That is the freedom that Jesus has given us, the peace, the fact that we are going to go through some stuff in this life and especially when we are moving forward with Him but He gives us His powerful Word to stand on that He has OVERCAME the World. So instead of giving up, we can trust in that, we can stop limiting ourselves and our life but the little we got and walk into the daggum LOT that Jesus has, He is the only way to keep moving forward, keep moving closer to Him and bringing Him closer to the world around us on this wild mission He has set us out on!! It’s not going to be easy, we may fall at times, we may want to give up but Hey, It’s okay, Jesus is always there for me and you, He has already won the victory over anything that may make us feel defeated and He has given us more than enough to take that next step not just one day, but daily into the awesomeness He has for us!!! WOOO!!!! Can’t wait to see what Jesus is bout to do!!!!
Praying everyone has a great Son-day and enjoys the awesome freedom that Christ has set before us!!! Nothing can hold you back so celebrate that Freedom today! Celebrate Jesus and His freedom everyday!
